What is an ozone generator?
An ozone generator is a system that purifies the pool and SPA water, making it sparkling clear and reducing
the addition of chemicals such as chlorine or bromine to a minimum.
How is ozone produced?
We need a supply of oxygen molecules (O2) in order to breathe and sustain life. On land, O2 produced
naturally by the photosynthetic process in green plant life and in the water by green algae. Plants take in
carbon dioxide (CO2), generally during the night, use the carbon to sustain life and grow, while releasing O2 in
the process, much to the benefit of human beings and animals.
When a molecule of O2 is exposed to Ultraviolet sunlight, the activity levels of the individual atoms will be
increased due to the absorbed energy. If the level of UV is high enough, the O2 wil split in two free O1
(oxygen) atoms. Most of the oxygen atoms will recombine, again forming O2, while some of the O1 atoms
combine with O2 resulting in the production of O3 OZONE.
What is Ozone?
Ozone is present in large quantities in the upper atmosphere generally at 20 to 30 miles in altitude and is
called OZONESPHERE. On land, we are protected because almost all of the sun’s Ultraviolet radiation is
absorbed, constantly creating and destroying O2 and O3 molecules. Therefore, it can be said that before
ozone, there were no life forms present on the earth.
Lightning is a sudden discharge of unbelievable high voltage and current levels which produces large amounts
of ozone. This is the reason that following a strong thunderstorm, the air is fresh and nice and we have to give
most of the credit to ozone acitivity. For this reason we can call ozone the NATURAL DEODORANT. However,
ozone has an odour, which was first reported by Van Maureen in 1785 in the vicinity of an electrical discharge.
The characteristic odour of ozone in low concentration is similar to that of new mown hay and is detected by
most people at the level of 0.015PPM (Parts Per Million).
Ozone vs. Chemicals

In a comparison of disinfection efficiency, OZONE is 2500 times more effective than Hypochlorite (OCL)
and 5000 times more than Chloramines (NH2CL). It kills bacteria, viruses, cysts, molds and mildew.

Ozone leaves no chemical residue or odours in the water.

Ozone will not burn eyes or leave them red and irritated as chemicals do.
·
Ozone will not irritate or dry the skin.
·
Ozone is safe, does not explode and is not a fire hazard.

The use of Ozone eliminates the need to purchase and store chemical oxidants. Once the system is
installed, it provides a constant supply of Ozone in the water. There is no labour for handling.

Because ozone reacts so much more quickly, there is an opportunity for substantial savings. The use of
chlorine or bromine together with this ozone system is minimised. The return on investment can be
surprisingly very short.

Ozone Generator
OZONE PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES - OZONE GENERATORS:
There are two technologies to produce ozone:
A) ULTRAVIOLET OZONE GENERATORS: utilize UV lamp to produce ozone. This system is used for
applications which require low concentration of ozone.
B) CORONA DISCHARGE (DC) electrical energy: utilize a CD electrode to produce ozone. This system is used
for high output applications.
VENTURI INJECTOR:
Injectors appear to be simple devices but, they have to be very carefully designed and constructed in order to
transfer the maximum of ozone into the swimming pool water.
Inside the injector the process is as follows:
The water inlet to the injector is reduced to a minimum diameter (orifice). This increases the speed of the water
of the water flow and creates a low pressure area into which ozone (air/ozone bubbles) is sucked into the
system. Immediately after this point the water flow path expands. The system creates a rapid mass transfer of
ozone into the water, allowing the bubbles to be sustained in the water. For this process to be efficient, the air
volume and the water pressure must be properly adjusted.
INSTALLATION
The Ozone Generator Box
The OZY-ozone generators are designed for wall mounted, indoor or outdoor area. Install the ozone generator
out of reach of water, sprinklers or any drainage. Allow enough access for maintenance and also for installing
the manifold and electrical wires. Ozone generator must be installed at least one foot above the water level.
The OZY-Corona Discharge (CD) Ozone Generator series are designed to provide ozonated water for
swimming pools in a safe and effective manner. The high quality of the components and engineering design
ensure an efficient ozone output and reliable performance. Using the OZY-CD ozone generator series will
eliminate the unpleasant effect of traditional chemical use (red eyes, dry skin, smell etc.).
