How many Solar Sun Rings?

Solar Sun Rings are higly efficient passive solar collectors reliant on the sun to heat your pool. With each Solar Sun Ring capable of generating in excess of 21,000 BTUs per day we would recommend enough Solar Sun Rings to cover between 65% and 85% of your pool’s surface, ignoring the small triangles between the rings. Solar Sun Rings may be used on all chlorine or salt water pools, whether inground or above ground, in the UK or abroad. They are easy to store, transport and look after.

Safety: No other floating solar cover matches Solar Sun Rings design for safety. Countless pets and many people have died because of entrapment with the one piece bubble pack covers. The primary design criteria of the Solar Sun Ring was to prevent entrapment

Durability: Once the design for the Solar Sun Ring was established the material selection began. Polyethylene plastic, which is used for all bubble pack covers, was rejected because of its intolerance to and degradation in direct sunlight and inability to retain air. High quality ultra violet resistant vinyl (polyvinyl chloride) is used exclusively for durability that cannot be achieved by the inferior plastic used in bubble pack covers. Vinyl will normally outlast polyethylene 3 to 1. The vinyl used to manufacture Solar Sun Rings is not destroyed by pH fluctuation, higher than normal chlorine concentration or salt water systems. Furthermore, vinyl is easily repaired if punctured.

Solar Efficiency: By using the high quality polished vinyl for the top layer and a 50% density lightly frosted lower layer, we achieved a solar efficiency that greatly surpasses bubble pack covers. The milky translucent inferior plastic used in bubble pack covers reflects much of the suns energy and fails to allow adequate deep water heating. Solar Sun Rings design and materials allow greater solar efficiency with greater nighttime insulation due to greater captive air thickness. Solar Sun Rings were designed to safely heat swimming pools, not cushion packages. The effect is that Solar Sun Rings with 70% to 80% coverage outperform bubble pack covers with 100% coverage.

Mustard Algae: The 100% coverage and inefficient solar effect of bubble pack covers creates additional problems. By blocking all direct sunlight, mustard algae will form within a very short time. This negates the continuous use of the bubble pack covers. The Solar Sun Ring with its increased solar efficiency is designed for continuous use without culturing a pool full of mustard algae.

Compatibility: The Solar Sun Ring is designed to be compatible with automatic pool cleaners. The many features that give Solar Sun Rings greater safety at the same allow them to be used with automatic pool cleaners. Solar Sun Rings are also compatible with solar panel systems giving a pool a double shot of the suns energy during the day and great nighttime insulation.

Placement and Removal: Solar Sun Rings were designed for easy placement and removal by one person. The magnets for conditioning the water are placed into the perimeter of each ring to facilitate rafting. The five foot diameter of each ring also allows for easy cleaning.

Aesthetics: I have never heard anyone praise the aesthetics of the bubble pack cover. Solar Sun Rings were designed to add festive colors to an otherwise drab device. The silk screen printing of the Solar Sun Rings is similar to a window screen to allow solar heating while adding color to the swimming pool.

Inventory: Solar Sun Rings are a single inventory item. One size fits all sizes and shapes of pools - its just a question of how many are used. They are shipped deflated.

Storage: Because the solar thermal genesis and insulation properties of Solar Sun Rings is so great, when they are removed from the pool, they must be stored out of direct sunlight to prevent overheating.

How Do Solar Sun Rings Work?

Solar Sun Rings are a passive solar swiming pool heating device made from two sheets of heavyweight U.V. resistant vinyl. The upper clear layer holds insulating air and focuses sunlight on the blue coloured lower layer. The blue layer absorbs about 50% of the sunlight and converts the heat. The balance of the sunlight is allowed to pass through for water heating. At night the contained air acts as an insulation blanket to retain heat gained during daylight.

Each Solar Sun RIng is equipped with 6 magnets, positioned to facilitate the rafting effect that permits single position removal and will also easily separate to prevent entrapment in accidental falls. The open water that Solar Sun Rings leave visible on your pool also helps improve clarity and decrease the hardness of the water.

Solar Sun Rings Save You Money

Solar Sun Rings have been designed to be extremely effective in producing heat, retaining heat and limiting evaporation all without the need to totally cover the surface of your pool. Neither water nor pool chemicals can evaporate through the Solar Sun Rings . You wil save water and chemicals about equal to the percentage of the surface covered. Once the water in your pool has reached adequate temperature, Solar Sun Rings may be turned over to conserve water by limiting evaporation without significantly heating the water. Solar Sun Rings can be used on their own or in conjunction with another form of pool heating

Solar Sun Rings - Safety First

Solar Sun Rings have been designed to separate in order to prevent entangling and entrapment in the case of a child, adult or pet accidentaly falling into your pool. This also makes them ideal for use with our automatic pool cleaners. If the floating cable from the pool cleaner should catch on a ring, the rings simply separate from the rest of the rings, allowing the pool cleaner to continue and then the magnets allow them to rejoin.

No Need To Cover The Whole Pool

Your pool requires some direct sunlight and open water to stay healthy. The open water around the raft of Solar Sun Rings and the triangle caused by the convergence of three Solar Sun Rings is by design. These open areas allow your pool to receive some direct sunlight. This sunlight will greatly reduce the incidence of Mustard Algae. The Solar Sun Rings work more efficiently than comparable Solar Covers allowing the safety, health and look of your pool to be just as important as the production and heat retention.

Easy To Clean & Transport

Each Solar Sun Ring is individually shrink wrapped making them easy to transport to Holiday Homes and their PVC construction allows for easy cleaning with a sponge and a mild detergent solution.

In an ongoing test at the National Pool Industry Research Centre at California Polytechnic Univeristy, Solar Sun Rings proved a total heat input to the test pools of 21,000 BTU per day for each unit.

For freeform pools we suggest you start with one ring per 33 square feet (3 square metres) of surface area and add rings if necessary. As with all Solar Heating Systems the sizing given is an approximation as weather conditions and pool position will affect the number of rings needed.
